Ghulam Muhammad Mahar Medical College was inaugurated on 2 September 2003 by Sindh Chief Minister Ali Mohammad Mahar as the sixth public-sector medical college in Sindh, with its first batch of 40 students starting classes on 15 October 2003. Originally named Sardar Ghulam Muhammad Khan Mahar Medical College after a local philanthropist and tribal chief, it was renamed to its shortened current form on 27 December 2005.

Location

Sukkur is a major city on the Indus River in northern Sindh, historically important as a river-crossing and trade point anchored by the Sukkur Barrage, and serves as upper Sindh's key commercial and educational center.
