The institution now known as Pir Abdul Qadir Shah Jeelani Institute of Medical Sciences (also called Gambat Institute of Medical Sciences) grew from a small dispensary founded in 1934, upgraded to a Model Taluka Hospital in 1980, then to an institute of medical sciences in 2003 under Sindh provincial administration. Its medical college was established in 2012, and it was granted degree-awarding institute status by an act passed on 12 April 2011, with an HEC No Objection Certificate issued on 31 March 2015.
Location
Gambat is a town in Khairpur Mirs district of Sindh, historically linked to the Jeelani Sufi shrine lineage after which the institute is named, and has grown from a modest health outpost into a significant regional medical-education hub for upper Sindh.
