Makran Medical College was approved as part of the Balochistan government's 2013-14 public sector development program under then-Chief Minister Dr. Abdul Malik Baloch, one of three new colleges built outside Quetta (with Khuzdar and Loralai). It began functioning in May 2018, with first-year MBBS classes starting on 17 May 2018, and was formally inaugurated by a former Balochistan Chief Minister.
