Karachi Medical & Dental College (KMDC) was established in 1991 as Pakistan's first medical and dental college established, managed and administered by a municipal corporation (Karachi Metropolitan Corporation), and it became the first public-sector dental college in Karachi. Before its founding, Karachi students seeking a public-sector BDS seat had to travel to Jamshoro, Hyderabad. KMDC's status was later changed to a university, and the institution is now known as Karachi Metropolitan University (KMU), with the dental department continuing to function as its Dental Department.

Admission criteria
