de'Montmorency College of Dentistry was established in 1928 by Sir Geoffrey Fitzhervey de Montmorency, then Governor of Punjab, with Dr Peter Gillies as its first principal; the affiliated Punjab Dental Hospital opened in April 1930. The college was formally instituted in 1934, initially offering a condensed two-year BDS for MBBS graduates before adopting a full four-year BDS program affiliated with the University of the Punjab by 1936; it has been affiliated with the University of Health Sciences, Lahore since 2003.

Lahore is Punjab's provincial capital and a major historical and cultural center; the college and its Punjab Dental Hospital sit on Fort Road immediately adjacent to the 17th-century Badshahi Mosque, one of the largest mosques of the Mughal era.
