CMH Institute of Medical Sciences (CIMS) Bahawalpur had its foundation stone laid in April 2015 by then-Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif, with the campus inaugurated in March 2017 by General Qamar Javed Bajwa. The first batch of 100 students began classes in March 2017.

Bahawalpur is a historic city in southern Punjab that served as the capital of the princely state of Bahawalpur until its 1955 merger into Pakistan, known for Noor Mahal, Derawar Fort, and its Abbasi dynasty heritage.
